This May, the Children and Young People’s Public Health Directorate will join with the Great Start in Life Foundation, part of Harrogate Hospital & Community Charity, to support staff health and wellbeing while giving back to the communities they serve. Together, the teams will take on a virtual challenge to “walk the globe,” visiting all 74 countries and territories in the Commonwealth. This journey links to the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games in July. The challenge will run throughout National Walking Month, from 1–31 May 2026, and will be a full directorate effort to explore the world and learn about each place along the way.
Every step aims to improve staff health and wellbeing and raise funds for the local communities supported by the team. In each service area, donations will help enhance the services provided to children, young people and families through HDFT. Each contribution creates more opportunities for local children and young people to have a great start in life.
Every service area within the 0–19 HDFT footprint will form its own team within the wider group. This approach encourages teamwork, connection and community spirit. Every penny donated will make a meaningful difference to the children, young people and families supported by these services.
