Join us on Wednesday 10 June for a special Vinylsessions evening as we celebrate Boston’s iconic 1976 debut album. Experience this classic record like never before on a powerful, age‑matched Sony hi‑fi system.
The Vinylsessions team will present the legendary self‑titled album by American rock band Boston. Originally released on 25 August 1976 by Epic Records, the album was produced by Tom Scholz and John Boylan. Scholz, a multi‑instrumentalist and engineer, began recording demos in his apartment basement with singer Brad Delp. Although early attempts faced rejection, Epic Records signed the band in 1975 after hearing their work.
As a result, Boston created a distinctive sound that blended electronic effects, Hammond organ, heavy guitar riffs, and classic rock influences. This unique mix became known as the “Boston sound” and set the band apart.
The album quickly achieved remarkable success. It became the best‑selling debut LP in the US at the time and earned the RIAA Century Award. In addition, hit singles such as More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, and Foreplay/Long Time continue to define 1970s rock. Today, the album remains a must‑hear classic and has sold over 20 million copies worldwide.
The evening begins at 7:30pm with an introduction from Colin and an artist profile by Graham. They will then play the album on a stunning vintage system, featuring a Sony STR‑7065A receiver, Sony PS‑4750 turntable, and RAM 200 monitor speakers.
Alongside the music, enjoy Mike’s video slideshow, a raffle, and a selection of bonus tracks—all played on vinyl.
Tickets cost £7 plus Eventbrite fee. Alternatively, you can pay £7 on the door by reserving your place in advance at [email protected].
