Vinylsessions are back for their first event of 2026.
Enjoy an original pressing of this iconic album on an amazing age related audio system featuring Linn Sondec and Sony’s ES amplification.
We kick off with an iconic 1986 album, on original 1986 pressing, featuring Perer Gabriels 5th studio album So. Gabriel continued to use the pioneering Fairlight CMI digital Sampling synthesizer, interestingly as used on the Kate Bush album “Hounds of Love” featured last year. Tracks from these sessions were less experimental than his previous material.
Nevertheless, Gabriel drew on various musical influences, fusing pop, soul, and art rock with elements of traditional world music, particularly African and Brazilian styles. It is Gabriel’s first non-eponymous album, So – representing an “anti-title” that resulted from label pressure to “properly” market his music. Gabriel toured So on the This Way Up tour (1986–1987), with some songs performed at human rights and charity concerts during this period.
As well as success on the album charts 4 singles were spun off in the UK – Sledgehammer, Big Fun and the amazing duet with Kate Bush Don’t Give Up, Red Rain.
After Colin’s introduction at 7.30pm Graham Chalmers gives us a full profile of the artist and albums concept prior to playback in full with a video show. We have a break between sides plus our usual raffle. Every penny raised goes to supporting the Harrogate District Hospital Special Care Baby Unit bathroom renovation project. So far, Vinylsessions have raised around 70% of the target thanks to your kind support!
Then we spin some bonus tracks off Gabriel’s earlier solo albums – Salisbury Hill, Games Without Frontiers and any others you fancy!
Our audio menu is just as iconic! Linn Sonkek LP12, Sony TA-F500ES high end amplifier (All from mid 80s) and Wharfedale’s current Linton Anniversary speakers complete our lineup.
