Its time to push the boundaries of Vinylsessions usual audio menu for some classic music from 1991!

For our April Vinylsessions event, we will spin this iconic album on a unique early‑80s Realistic Monster System. This setup pushes the boundaries of our usual audio menu. We’re stepping away from our classic heavy‑duty Sony, Pioneer and HK gear. Yes, it’s genuine high‑end Realistic equipment, and it’s going to be quite an experience.

This month, we present Queen – Greatest Hits II. Released on 28 October 1991, just one month before Freddie Mercury’s death, the album features Queen’s biggest hits from 1981 to 1991. From the UK chart‑topper Under Pressure to The Show Must Go On, we also enjoy classics such as Radio Ga Ga, A Kind of Magic, I Want to Break Free and One Vision.

The album reached number one on the UK Album Chart. It is also the tenth best‑selling album in the UK, with 3.9 million copies sold as of 2014. Worldwide sales exceed 25 million, showing just how popular it remains.

As always, the evening begins at 7.30pm. Graham Chalmers will share the full backstory of the album and the band. Playback starts around 8pm, followed by our usual raffle and a couple of drink breaks, as this is a double album. Mike has now returned from the USA—likely with even more Realistic gear—and has planned a great video show.

This month’s audio menu is completely different. We will use a specially imported early‑1980s Realistic STA‑2300 Monster Receiver. It delivers 240 watts RMS. A 10‑band Realistic EQ will drive Realistic Mach 1 speakers, paired with a Realistic LAB Series turntable. More than 46 years ago, this system cost well over £1,000, making it extremely rare in the UK.

Every penny raised goes to HHCC for our Harrogate SCBU project. Thanks to your support, we have now reached around £7,500, which is 75% of our £10,000 target.

Tickets cost £7 plus the Eventbrite booking fee. To pay £7 at the door, please email [email protected].
